Reproductive Health Care Member Interest Group

Established: October 2014

The Reproductive Health Care Member Interest Group (MIG) promote evidence-based reproductive health care in family medicine. This group helps AAFP members integrate comprehensive reproductive health care into their practices.

Who can join this MIG

Participation is open to any AAFP member interested in or seeking to learn more about reproductive health.

Reproductive Health MIG objectives

  • Promote evidence-based reproductive health care in family medicine.
  • Create and offer CME activities on topics related to reproductive health care.
  • Help AAFP members integrate comprehensive reproductive health care into their practices.
  • Assist the AAFP in membership recruitment and retention of family physicians practicing reproductive health care.

Long-term MIG goals

  • Allow women and men to obtain full spectrum reproductive health care in the privacy of their own family physician’s office.
  • Influence policies of the AAFP to support advocacy, education and public health measures that expand access for women to high quality, evidence-based family planning care and which encourage appropriately planned pregnancies and good birth outcomes.
  • Embrace miscarriage care as part of the scope of practice of family medicine in order to provide more holistic care to families.
  • Develop and propose a Maintenance of Certification Part IV module to the American Board of Family Medicine focused on evidence-based comprehensive reproductive health.
  • Develop leadership of MIG participants by creating opportunities through advocacy for the above goals.
