Single Payer Health Care Member Interest Group
Established: December 2014
The Single Payer Health Care Member Interest Group (MIG) investigates the current outlook on single payer financed health care among AAFP members. This group will educate AAFP members on the ability of single payer financed health care to streamline and simplify patient care and improve family physicians' professional satisfaction by greatly decreasing administrative complexities and burdens.
Who can join this MIG
Participation is open to any AAFP member interested in or seeking to learn more about single payer health care.
Single Payer Health Care MIG objectives
- Advocate for a publicly funded, single payer financed health care system in the U.S. as the most effective way to provide comprehensive, equal, and affordable health care for all
- Advocate for the ability of family physicians to take a central role in providing high-quality, cost-effective health care through a single payer health care system
- Promote education on comparative health care financing systems (and their effects on individual and population health) among AAFP members, family medicine residents, medical students, and other health care professionals
- Assist the AAFP in membership recruitment and retention of family physicians who are interested in single payer health care
Long-term MIG goals
- Investigate the current outlook on single payer financed health care among AAFP members
- Catalyze AAFP's participation in and support of single payer financed models of health care, via state and national advocacy efforts
- Educate AAFP members on the ability of single payer financed health care to streamline and simplify patient care and improve family physicians' professional satisfaction by greatly decreasing administrative complexities and burdens
