American Academy of Family Physicians Hires David Tully as Director of Division of Government Relations

WASHINGTON — The American Academy of Family Physicians is pleased to announce that David Tully has joined the AAFP as director of the Division of Government Relations. As director, Tully will provide strategic and operational oversight of the AAFP’s federal and state advocacy activities aimed at advancing the AAFP’s legislative priorities.
“With more than a decade of experience inside the beltway, we are excited to have David on the team. His familiarity with the inner workings of the legislative process and complex health care issues will strengthen the voice of family medicine on behalf of our members and the patients they care for,” said Stephanie Quinn, senior vice president for advocacy, practice advancement and policy.
Tully comes to the AAFP from the BlueCross BlueShield Association, where he served as managing director of legislative advocacy and operations. In that capacity, he was responsible for advocating the BCBSA’s legislative priorities before Congress. He also oversaw numerous operational aspects of the federal relations team.
Prior to his work at BCBSA, Tully served as a senior legislative assistant for a congressional representative, where he managed a broad range of domestic issues including appropriations, budget, economic policy, financial services, health care, housing and transportation policy. Before his time on the Hill, Tully worked as a legislative assistant at the United States Chamber of Commerce and provided legislative and research support to the Chamber’s lobbying team on issues of health care, tax, transportation and trade policy.
Tully received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in public policy from George Mason University.
