Each year, one resident is selected to serve as a voting member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Board of Directors. Serving on the STFM Board is more than a leadership position—it’s a platform to make a lasting impact. This is an opportunity to bring the resident voice into high-level discussions that influence policy, medical education and the future of the family medicine workforce. Term: August 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027 (Candidates may be eligible for second term)
Focus: Family medicine education
Prerequisites required: None
Funding: Provided by STFM for attendance at STFM meetings
Position responsibilities
Engage in discussions to inform decisions made by the STFM Board of Directors (does not represent the AAFP).
Serve as a voting member of the STFM Board of Directors.
Participate as a voting member of the STFM Graduate Student Education Committee.
Serve as an ambassador for work to engage family medicine residents in STFM activities and academic family medicine.
Attend all STFM Board meetings and Graduate Medical Education Committee meetings during term as representative.
Applications for this position are reviewed by the AAFP Resident and Student Leadership Screening/Selection Committee and appointed by the AAFP Board of Directors.
