How to apply for AAFP membership

Guidance you need to apply for AAFP membership for yourself or your residency program or rejoin after a membership lapse.

Step-by-step membership application guide

Step 1: Create an AAFP account or log in to your existing account

To apply for AAFP membership, you will need an AAFP account. This is free.

Use your credentials to begin the process.
Log in now

Step 2. Get started on your application

If you're a practicing physician, you may need the following for your application:

  • Medical license number, issuance date and expiration date
  • Credit card information (Note: Membership dues and any contributions won't be charged until your application is approved.)

Step 3. Verify CME credits*

*Only applies to rejoining members

If you were an AAFP member in the past 24 months:

  • Confirm you have 100 CME credits earned during the same time period on file with the AAFP.
  • Contact aafp@aafp.org or (800) 274-2237 to confirm your credits or submit additional ones.

Residency programs enrolling resident members

If you're a residency program director or coordinator, enroll your residents in AAFP membership through the Residency Portal. Use the Request Memberships button under Residency Tools.
