• 2025 NCCL Delegates Elect New Leaders

    April 28, 2025, News Staff — Delegates elected several new family physician leaders at the 2025 National Conference of Constituency Leaders, which met April 24-26 in Kansas City, Missouri.

    Those elected include:

    AAFP Board of Directors new physician member candidate: Jane Simpson, D.O., of Clayton, New York. (Note: This candidate is to be approved by the 2025 Congress of Delegates.)

    New Physician alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates: Bright Zhou, M.D., of West Hollywood, California; and Tisha Van Pelt, M.D., of Tampa, Florida.

    Member constituency alternate delegates to the AAFP Congress of Delegates:

    Kenneth Barning, M.D., of Pearland, Texas; Adeola Fakolade, M.D., M.P.H., of Cleveland; Melissa Campos, M.D., of San Diego; Joaquin Villegas, M.D., M.P.H. of Houston; Susan Wang, M.D., of Orange, California; and David Tran, M.D., of Chula Vista, California.

    The member constituency alternate delegates represent the following constituency groups: women; international medical graduates; Black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC); and LGBTQ+ physicians or physicians who support LGBTQ+ issues.

    2026 NCCL Convener: Anna Askari, M.D., FAAFP, of Mission Viejo, California.

    2026 member constituency co-conveners: Tran and Victoria Otano, M.D., of Palmetto, Florida (LGBTQ+ constituency); Wang and Julia Flax, M.D., FAAFP, of Springfield, Missouri (women’s constituency); Barning and Fakolade (IMG constituency); Campos and Villegas (BIPOC constituency); Zhou and Van Pelt (new physician constituency).

    Be a Family Physician Leader

    AAFP members such as those elected at this year’s NCCL shape the Academy’s policies and positions on issues that affect family medicine. Learn how you can take part in AAFP governance and then choose a path to get involved at the national level or contact your chapter for other opportunities.

    AAFP policies are determined by its members, and the Academy offers a multitude of elected and appointed leadership positions for students, residents and active members. Many leadership roles for students and residents will be determined July 31-Aug. 2 during FUTURE in Kansas City, Missouri.
