Here's how to get your ideas in front of some of the most influential people in family medicine.
The AAFP is among a handful of specialty medical organizations to actively recruit resident members for leadership roles. Of the many leadership opportunities available to you as a resident, appointment to an AAFP commission stands out.
In this role—having been selected by the Board of Directors—you’ll advise the Board by reviewing and making recommendations on resolutions and policies. You’ll also serve as the voice of residents on your commission.

Funding: The AAFP covers any in-person required travel during this leadership term.
Position responsibilities
The term is one year.
Commission members are expected to bring strategic and innovative ideas to inform policy recommendations, develop new programs and projects and streamline action.

AAFP commissions
Provide oversight, planning and evaluation of all AAFP-provided CME, accreditation and certification and development of new content delivery methods.
Help develop and evaluate policies and procedures that promote health equity and inclusive, person-centered care while reducing health disparities.
Make an impact through recommendations on state and federal policy issues that impact family physicians, patients and the health care system.
Develop evidence-based clinical guidelines and policies while promoting societal, regulatory and environmental initiatives that improve health for all.
Grow the future of family medicine by helping recruit new members to the AAFP and providing enhanced services to retain existing members.
Help ease the administrative burden by focusing on emerging technologies to manage health data, practice management, payment and other key areas.
Focus on curriculum, student areas of interest, academic mentoring and education-based awards.
