What does the resident delegate to the AMA House of Delegates do?

The resident delegate to the AMA House of Delegates serves as a vital link between the AMA and grassroots physicians on communication, policy and membership. As a key source of information about the AMA’s activities, programs and policies, they foster a positive two-way relationship between physicians and the AMA’s leaders.

The AAFP Board of Directors appoints this position based on recommendations from the AAFP Resident and Student Leadership Screening Committee.

Important details

  • Application due: Applications are currently closed.

  • Term: Oct. 1, 2026 to Sept. 30, 2028

  • Prerequisites: AMA membership

  • Funding: Travel expenses are reimbursed according to AAFP policy.

Position responsibilities

  • Represents AAFP members and offers residents' perspectives at the AMA HOD meetings.

  • Participates in AMA delegation activities as directed by the chair of the AAFP AMA delegation.

  • Attends FUTURE, and provides written and oral reports during the two years following appointment.

The AAFP Board appoints the resident delegate to the AMA House of Delegates based on recommendations from the AAFP Resident and Student Leadership Screening Committee.
