Bring the resident perspective to the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees. This resident leadership opportunity means you’ll contribute to decision-making on a nonprofit board of trustees and receive mentoring from established leaders of the AAFP Foundation.

The AAFP Foundation advances the values of family medicine through humanitarian, educational and scientific philanthropy dedicated to improving health. This position is elected at FUTURE Conference, which candidates should plan to attend.

Position responsibilities

  • Is a full voting member of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees

  • Serves as liaison to the AAFP Commission on Education and two of its subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Resident and Student Issues, and the Subcommittee on National Conference Planning. This includes one in-person meeting each year, as well as virtual meetings held quarterly and sometimes monthly

  • Attends two Foundation Board meetings following election and confirmation by the AAFP Foundation Board

  • Attends FUTURE, and summer and winter cluster meetings

  • Provides input into potential Foundation programming directed toward residents

  • Serves as the Foundation’s advocate with the resident membership

  • Serves on at least three Foundation committees as assigned by the Foundation president

  • Serves as a member of the AAFP Insurance Services Board of Directors. The board convenes twice annually in the spring and fall, aligning these meetings with the Foundation Board meetings, so there will be no additional travel required.

Candidates for this position are elected at FUTURE and should plan to attend the entire conference. Candidates are required to be nominated at the conference, deliver a 2- to 3-minute speech, participate in a candidate Q&A and, if elected, participate in a new officer orientation Saturday afternoon of the conference.

Candidates should familiarize themselves with AAFP Foundation programs.
