Student Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates
Represent the needs of medical students at AAFP’s Congress of Delegates. You’ll vote on leadership and propose policy.
Experience Congress of Delegates (COD) and learn the AAFP governance process in this student leadership position. Position applicants are elected as alternate delegates to serve as alternate delegates to this year's AAFP COD, alongside the current delegates. Following the meeting, you’ll serve as delegates through next year's COD.

Term: August 1, 2026 – September 21, 2027
Prerequisites required: None
Funding: Travel covered according to AAFP Travel Policy; a per diem covers expenses to travel to and attend the meeting, including lodging and food.
Position responsibilities
Represent student member interests, as voted on by the National Congress of Student Members, at the AAFP Congress of Delegates by following resolutions and issues pertinent to medical students.
Serve as a member of the AAFP Commission on Education (COE), the COE Subcommittee on Resident and Student Issues, and the COE Subcommittee on Graduate Curriculum.
Keep lines of communication open with student members to facilitate dialogue on issues important to medical students.
Facilitate discussion and advise resolution writing at the AAFP National Congress of Student Members.
Candidates for this position are elected at FUTURE. Candidates should plan to attend the entirety of the conference. Candidates are required to be nominated at the conference, deliver a 2- to 3-minute speech, participate in a candidate Q&A, and, if elected, participate in a new officer orientation Saturday afternoon of the conference.
