Student Member to the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees

It’s your chance to represent medical students in important family medicine conversations.

The student in this position will bring the medical student perspective to the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees. This student leadership opportunity means you’ll contribute to decision-making on a nonprofit board of trustees and receive mentoring from established leaders of the AAFP Foundation.

The AAFP Foundation advances the values of family medicine through humanitarian, educational and scientific philanthropy dedicated to improving health. This position is elected at FUTURE each July, which candidates should plan to attend.

  • Funding: Provided for meeting attendance according to AAFP Foundation guidelines

Position responsibilities

  • Is a full voting member of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees

  • Serves on the AAFP Student Leader Advisory Group with specific responsibilities to advise the Commission on Education Subcommittee on Medical Student Education and Workforce Development and the Subcommittee on Graduate Medical Education (Includes virtual meetings throughout the year, about quarterly)

  • Attends two Foundation Board meetings following election and confirmation by the AAFP Foundation Board

  • Provides input into potential Foundation programming directed toward students

  • Serves as the Foundation’s advocate with the student membership

  • Serves on at least three Foundation committees as assigned by the Foundation President

  • Attends FUTURE (Does NOT attend Commission on Education)

Candidates for this position are elected at FUTURE. Candidates should plan to attend the entirety of the conference. Candidates are required to be nominated at the conference, deliver a 2- to 3-minute speech, participate in a candidate Q&A, and, if elected, participate in a new officer orientation Saturday afternoon of the conference.

Candidates should familiarize themselves with AAFP Foundation programs.

  • Participation form signed by dean of medical school
  • Support form completed by your AAFP chapter (state or constituent chapter)
  • Completed conflict of interest disclosure
