Student Member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Board of Directors

It’s your chance to represent students in education decisions.

The student in this leadership position will help define the role of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) in student medical education. You’ll develop your leadership skills alongside family medicine education leaders and organize conference sessions.

The STFM promotes family medicine as an academic discipline, improves the quality of family medicine education and encourages research and teaching. Members include anyone involved in educating family physicians, from nurses and PAs to health system executives and residents.

  • Funding: Provided by STFM for attendance at STFM meetings

Position responsibilities

  • Engage in discussions to inform decisions made by the STFM Board of Directors (does not represent the AAFP)

  • Serve as a member, with voting rights, on the STFM Board of Directors

  • Serve as a member, with voting rights, on the STFM Medical Student Education Committee

  • Serve as an ambassador for work to engage medical students in STFM activities and academic family medicine

  • Attend all STFM Board meetings and Medical Student Education Committee meetings during term as representative

Candidates for this position are appointed by the AAFP Board of Directors at the recommendation of the AAFP Resident and Student Leadership Screening Committee.
