Student Conference Chair
Help plan FUTURE and serve as speaker of the National Congress of Student Members.
The student in this leadership position plays an important role in planning family medicine-focused education activities for medical students. The AAFP depends on the chair to bring the medical student perspective to FUTURE conference, AAFP education committee and National Congress of Student Member conversations.
Candidates for this position are elected each year at FUTURE, the annual AAFP event for medical students interested in family medicine. The National Congress of Student Members (NCSM) is the official voice of AAFP student members. In this congress, student members elect their national officers and advocate for various issues.

Application deadline: Preferred by July 24, 2026, but applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. CT on July 31, 2026
Term: July 31, 2026 – August 31, 2027
Prerequisites required: Yes
Funding: Reimbursement of actual travel expenses for airfare, or for mileage at the current IRS rate and parking expenses, up to the cost of one full coach airline ticket, shuttle or cab expenses to and from the airport, and regular per diem (currently $450) for each meeting and travel day (maximum of five days).
Position responsibilities
Serve as a member of the AAFP Commission on Education (COE), the COE Subcommittee on Resident and Student Issues and the COE Subcommittee on FUTURE Education and Leadership.
Finalize and coordinate student education activities throughout the year.
Provide input into programming and special activities for the upcoming FUTURE conference.
Preside at business sessions of the National Congress of Student Members.
Candidates for this position are elected at FUTURE. Candidates should plan to attend the entire conference. Candidates must be nominated in advance of the conference or the session start, deliver a 2- to 3-minute speech and participate in a candidate Q&A. If elected, the new chair will participate in a new officer orientation Saturday afternoon at FUTURE.
