The Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education honors outstanding contributions to family medicine education in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education.

What does the award recognize?

The AAFP created this award in 1973 to recognize educators whose lifetime contributions to family medicine education has strengthened the specialty.

The award is named for Tom Johnson, MD, a long-time AAFP member who actively served the Tennessee chapter and the AAFP before joining the education division staff in 1969. From 1971 until 1973, Dr. Johnson served as the director of the Division of Education.
