Important details

  • Application deadline: Applications close in July 2026 for Resident Congress

  • Term: Sept. 1, 2026 – Aug. 31, 2027, with the option to extend to a second term if eligible

  • Prerequisites required: None

Position responsibilities

  • Inform and provide a resident perspective to program directors on issues that affect residents

  • Attend required AFMRD in-person board meetings

  • Participate in monthly conference calls of the AFMRD Board of Directors

  • Provide written reports as requested

  • Attend the Residency Leadership Summit in conjunction with AFMRD in-person board meeting

  • Attend FUTURE to gather information on resident issues

  • Attend the Family Medicine Advocacy Summit (optional)

Candidates for this position are elected at FUTURE and should plan to attend the entire conference. Candidates are required to be nominated at the conference, deliver a 2- to 3-minute speech, participate in a candidate Q&A and, if elected, participate in a new officer orientation Saturday afternoon of the conference.
