Become an FMIG leader
Developing leadership skills early in your medical career can make a world of difference.
AAFP’s Family Medicine Interest Group Network helps medical students and faculty connect, share ideas and grow strong organizations across the country. Established in 1995, the network includes student leaders, faculty advisors, five regional coordinators, a national coordinator and liaisons to the Latino Medical Student Association and the Student National Medical Association. These leaders are here to support you and your FMIG with insight, tools and guidance. Meet your FMIG Network leaders.
Taking on a leadership role in your FMIG can help you strengthen your voice, expand your network and shape the future of family medicine on your campus. It’s a chance to build skills in teamwork, communication and advocacy while creating space for others who share your passion for primary care and health equity. Leadership experience also adds depth to your CV and residency applications, especially when it reflects your values and vision.
Whether you’re considering starting an FMIG or are already involved in one, the network connects you with peers, mentors, and leadership opportunities that help you grow throughout medical school and beyond. Explore how to register your FMIG, plan meaningful events, apply for funding and build skills through national leadership roles.
